Tomb Raider I-III Remastered on February 14th

Sparking joy among fans eagerly awaiting news on the beloved series. Lara Croft’s first snowy steps in the mountains of Peru were almost 30 years ago. In around a few days, PlayStation players will relive Lara’s first three epic journeys, with a new look and feel in Tomb Raider I-III Remastered on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Chris Bashaar, Director of Product at Aspyr, unveils insights into the meticulous pre-production process. Dividing goals into engineering, gameplay, and art, the team prioritized preserving the essence of the originals.

Preservation of Original Look and Feel

Emphasizing the significance of maintaining authenticity, Aspyr commits to preserving the original look and feel of Tomb Raider I, II, and III. Acknowledging fan sentiment, they offer a toggle feature for reverting to classic PS1 graphics.

Asserting the timeless appeal of the gameplay, Aspyr utilizes the original source code to recreate every jump, secret, enemy encounter, and puzzle. This dedication ensures an authentic experience for both veteran and new players.

Addressing a contentious issue, Aspyr introduces the option to toggle between tank and modern controls. This decision caters to diverse player preferences, ensuring maximum enjoyment across generations. A significant improvement comes in the form of boss battles featuring health bars. This addition empowers players to strategize and adapt their approach, enhancing overall gameplay depth.

Inclusion of Photo Mode

The introduction of a photo mode elevates the exploration experience to new heights. Enabling players to capture and admire the breathtaking environments, this feature adds an immersive dimension to the gameplay.

Replacing 2D sprites with 3D models showcases Aspyr’s attention to detail. While seemingly minor, this enhancement enhances visual fidelity, breathing new life into previously overlooked elements.
