WWE 2K24 Release Date, Cover Stars, Modes & More: Everything You Need to Know

WWE 2K24 is the upcoming iteration in the 2K Games wrestling simulation franchise. This highly-anticipated title will build on last year’s successful reboot, WWE 2K23, by offering new features, match types, superstars, and customization options. With its release coming up on March 8, 2024, here is an in-depth look at what fans can expect from WWE 2K24.

Release Date and Platforms

WWE 2K24 will launch on March 8, 2024, for current-gen consoles PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Additionally, it will also be available on PC. Deluxe and special 40 Years of WrestleMania editions will grant early access starting March 5. Therefore, fans who purchase these premium versions can start playing a few days ahead of the standard edition.

Cover Superstars Showcase Past and Present

The cover superstars reflect the theme of this year’s game – celebrating WWE’s past and future. Cody Rhodes graces the standard cover, befitting his triumphant return to the company in 2022. Meanwhile, rising stars Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair are on the deluxe edition cover. Finally, legends like The Undertaker and John Cena front the 40 Years of WrestleMania edition.

Showcase Mode Focuses on WrestleMania History

Speaking of WrestleMania, WWE 2K24’s showcase mode highlights legendary matches from the event’s 40-year history. Fans will be able to relive classic WrestleMania moments like Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant at WrestleMania III or Stone Cold, Steve Austin vs Bret Hart at WrestleMania 13. Showcase modes have been a popular staple of previous WWE 2K games, so the focus on WrestleMania’s milestone anniversary is fitting.

Massive Roster Packed with Legends and Celebrities

WWE 2K24 boasts a mammoth roster with over 200 playable superstars at launch. Alongside current superstars like Roman Reigns and Becky Lynch, all the fan-favorite legends will also return, such as The Rock, Ric Flair, and Triple H. Intriguingly, celebrity guest characters like rapper Bad Bunny and YouTuber Logan Paul will be playable as well. However, controversial figures Vince McMahon and Brock Lesnar are notably absent from the initial roster.

Exciting New Match Types and Creation Tools

In addition to returning match types, the game introduces some new ways to pummel opponents. Ambulance and coffin matches make their debut, alongside the chaotic-sounding gauntlet matches. Players can also become special guest referees in exhibition matches. Moreover, players have more freedom to customize with the new Create-a-Referee and Create-a-Sign tools.

Building on Last Year’s Strong Foundation

At its core, WWE 2K24 looks to build on last year’s solid foundation. Fan-favorite modes like Universe Mode, MyGM, and MyRise all return with new surprises. Backstage brawls are expanded with more interactivity. The overall gameplay and presentation also seem further polished based on early impressions. If developer Visual Concepts can deliver another steady update, then WWE 2K24 could become the best entry in the series yet.
